The above is an article detailing our current retirement plan and the plan to butcher it. I'm sure my serving brethren will be pissed beyond belief if they haven't seen it already.

I personally think it's a stupid idea. For lots of reason. I am sure you have the same thoughts.

the retirement plan has changed many times over the years, but the folks currently under contract always get grandfathered, else we'd all just punch out as breach of contract...assuming they do the same here, that means we wouldn't start saving money until roughly 2030...during that time all the youngins will require a larger incentive pay to join up to begin with and then further incentive to bother staying in...i'm not a betting man but I'd say that'll cost a few dollars more then paying people who work far harder and stranger hours then most anyone in the civilian sector...I'm of course eluding to our 365/24/7 rule of life.

Comparing the military to any civilian entity especially in regards to retirement is watermelons to grapes...I'm writing this during a 12 hour shift, through the middle of the night, when tomorrow I'll be back on days, and good chance the next day back on nights...while my fellow soldiers are being shot at or sleeping in the sand, my fellow sailors are away from their families for 9 months at sea, and my fellow airmen are flying on call around the world...yeah military deserves the same retirement plan as John Q public who worked 9-5 all his life for a gold watch...

Lets ask JP...or Z...or anyone else who is in a "nice" comfy air force job including myself, if they feel they should be compared to their civilian counterparts...even the militaries nicer jobs still have the away from family, strange hours, and of course military standards attached to them. There's a reason why MANY civilian companies hire prior military, they know that be default if nothing else, they're good hard workers. Sorry this obviously just pisses me off so i'll go home and go to bed now and dream during daylight hours of one day when I'm 57 of getting my retirement paycheck...
